(entered on JBT 4/11/08) C.A.R.B (air resources board) WILL BE CONDUCTING A FREE SEMINAR ON "HOW TO START THE ENGINE CERTIFICATION PROCESS" -- TUESDAY, APRIL 22
In order to comply with new exhaust emissions regulations in the state of California beginning January 1, 2009, all high performance (500 HP and above) inboard marine engines must be certified. 1/6/08 Gasoline ....
To all my jetboating friends: We all know it takes fossil fuel to run these Hot Rods and although It may not seem responsible to some people I for one am not ready to give up my Jet boat or my full size truck . I do belive while we as a society "work to find solutions to the growing energy problems that face our Great country Its my opinion that we need to build refineries and develop the Oil resources ,exploration etc available to us , ANWAR, Colorado green river oil shale, off shore Florida ,as well as several other options . I would not be so presumptuous to try to tell anyone how to Vote but please consider the issues of oil resources and development when you go to the polls this next election (editor)

I've been a HB subscriber/reader/advertiser for 20+ years. I always used to look forward to the new issues, especially Jet and v-drive tech and readers rides, etc. The Hot Boat forum boards were IMO like a frontier town without a Sheriff. There was constant trouble & unecessary drama, and I believe it (HB)could have been moderated much better to keep down the drama, insults, etc. I also believe despite what I've been told that there was a different more effective way to "fix" the HB boards. Maybe they will come back better but they've lost alot of folks forever I suspect. One sad aspect is that there was also alot of good info passed on and archived which may be lost. Re the New HB magazine, without regard the "second mortgage boats" (that don't interest alot of us), probably do pay the magazines bills and thus they get the big adds and wet tests, etc. But it's "Joe six pack" subscribers and mag buyers that read the Mag and buy the parts and accessories, etc. as well. I value the customer that buys a $1.00 nyliner the same as the fellow that buys a complete Jet drive ! My initial feeling about the 2nd new issue of HB Mag was less than luke warm this past week. I personally would much rather visit and hang out on these boards with real folks, in the "real hot boating world".

Regarding the apparent "demise" of the Hot Boat web site Forums :
(This letter /post is reprinted from the socaljets pages and represents my personal opinion written 12/19/07...)
Regarding HB forums ,I spent a lot of time last nite reading posts on what was left of the HB site and again this AM (going in the "backdoor links") before they completely shut things down.
Without sounding melodramatic, I have to say it reminded me of walking thru the rubble of a bombed out city or the aftermath of a some huge natural disaster. People (the HB community) had genuine emotions of shock, dismay, confusion and anger.
To lots of folks HB was a very important part of their daily social lives. HB forums was to me at times like an Old Frontier town with no real Sheriff or "managerial" direction. It was to some degree "out of control"IMO , but with a limited amount of effort, I believe it could have been "fixed" or saved, and actually made better.
There was an amazing amount of good done too, and lots of good interaction, discusion and information.
Unfortunately the "new HB powers that be apparently " made a decision to "Blitz", tear down and level the entire site.
I must respect their right and privilege to do this, after all it's their site. But as an experienced business person, I truly believe the method, lack of warnings and follow thru was, IMO ,not well thought out . I suspect they (new HB management) may never know or completely comprehend the long term ramifications of what they have done and It may be that at some corporate number crunching level they really don't care ? Just my contribution to this discussion.
GO SOCALJETBOATS!!
